In Baldur’s Gate, the Brain of the Mystic Carrion
The Brain of the Mystic Carrion is one of the components that can ease the final battle with the Mummy Lord. However, getting to the vessel containing this organ isn’t straightforward.
Where to Find It
To find the Brain of the Mystic Carrion, you need to descend into the sewers located beneath the Lower City.
The most advantageous way to do this is to use the sewer hatch near the “Baldur’s Gate” teleport point. The descent is located behind the “Sparkling Joy” in an alleyway. This is the closest spot.
After teleporting, move north to the “Ruins of the Undercity” teleport point. If it’s already opened, you can teleport directly to it. From here, go straight past the Mute Repentant Bedeki to the passage leading into the ancient lair.
Be prepared for the following:
- The entire party will receive the “Spell Rot” curse (except for Astarion, as he is effectively undead). You will take necrotic damage depending on which circle spell you use. You cannot remove it with “Remove Curse.” It will disappear on its own once you leave the location.
- As soon as you open any chest or the lab itself, a large number of monsters will attack you. They rely more on their numbers than their toughness.
To obtain the brain, you need to fight the monsters and open the path to the Mystic Carrion’s lair. The door is located on the left side of the large hall. You can find it through a Perception check. It can be unlocked either via a Sleight of Hand check (20 points) or by breaking it down with Strength.
Open the door and go inside. The brain will be in a jar on the table, inside a dismembered corpse.
What to Do With It
The only purpose of the Mystic Carrion’s brain in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to destroy the vessel to weaken the Mummy Lord.
How to do it:
- Place the jar on the ground by clicking “Drop” in the inventory or “Throw” from the action menu.
- Move your party away from the vessel.
- Select a character with a fire damage spell, such as Shadowheart or Gale, and shoot the jar.
After this, an area explosion will occur, destroying the brain. You should do the same with other jars containing the Mystic Carrion’s organs.
Is It Worth Seeking?
The Brain of the Mystic Carrion, unlike the heart, is not essential for defeating the lich, but the laboratory for which you are coming here is important.
There is a book with notes that reveals that the “Heart Vessel” is inside the zombie Trambo.
The heart is the source of the Mystic Carrion’s immortality, and this is why the lich sent you to find Trambo and bring his body in exchange for the cancellation torch.
With this information, you can then come to the zombie and take the heart without a fight.
