Forging a Weapon from Sussur Bark in Baldur’s Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can forge a weapon from Sussur Bark as part of the “Forge a Master Weapon” quest only once, so it requires careful consideration.
Available Recipes:
- Two-Handed Sword
- Sickle
- Dagger
Where to Get Blanks
To obtain a weapon from Sussur Bark, you will need to find a blank. It can be any basic (white) quality weapon — a two-hander, sickle, or dagger. These can be found randomly during your travels or purchased from vendors.
For example, you can purchase a two-handed sword and dagger from Arron in the Emerald Grove for a very modest price.
However, getting a sickle is more complicated, as it is not available for purchase. You can find one with a 100% probability near druid Tahan in the Emerald Grove, though you will have to engage in a bit of theft.
How to Forge
After obtaining the blanks, head to the smelting furnace located in the basement of the forge in the Forsaken Village.
First, you need to get a blue flame. Do this by clicking on the furnace and combining it with the Sussur Bark obtained from the tree in the Underdark.
Then:
- Click on the furnace again to open the combination window.
- Now insert the blank for the two-hander, dagger, or sickle into the empty slot.
- Click “Combine.”
- Watch the cutscene and receive your weapon.
Which Weapon to Choose
Any of the Sussur weapons has the ability to silence a target on hit, which can neutralize enemy spellcasters.
But which Sussur weapon is the most advantageous?
1) Dagger
The dagger ranks highest in terms of usefulness among all the options. While it doesn’t deal much damage, finding a truly good replacement until Act 3 is quite difficult.
This is the best option in Act 1 for Astarion. Additionally, most classes can use it. Even if you find a better option later, you can always keep it in your inventory for unexpected encounters with spellcasters.
2) Two-Handed Sword
This is a popular choice among players, and for good reasons:
- It deals decent damage at the start of the game.
- Many classes would be happy to use it.
- It can be an ideal option for Lae’zel at the beginning.
However, it quickly becomes outdated, especially if you have only one character in the party capable of using a claymore. There are many great two-handers in Baldur’s Gate 3, making the smelting furnace sword lose its relevance quickly.

3) Sickle
The sickle is less useful than the dagger. Additionally, obtaining a blank for it is more difficult.
