Haarlep in Baldur’s Gate 3 from the House of Hope (to agree to the game or not)

Baldur’s Gate 3

Regardless of whether you agreed to a deal with Raphael about the Netherese crown or not, you can visit his residence in Avernus — the House of Hope.

In the boudoir, you will be greeted by Raphael’s personal incubus — Haarlep, a full copy of the devil himself. Like his master, he will offer a very interesting deal.

Agreeing to the Proposal

As soon as you find Haarlep in Baldur’s Gate 3 lying on Raphael’s bed, a dialogue will automatically start. The most important thing is not to lie to the incubus, but to tell why you really came to the House of Hope; otherwise, he will attack.

Haarlep will propose playing a game, after which he promises to reward you with the necessary information about the hammer (your contract). If we agree to play, the incubus will order you to undress and lie with him. Before starting the game, Haarlep will also show his female form, thoughtfully asking about your preferences. This choice does not affect anything except your aesthetic pleasure.

If you completely surrender both body and mind to the beast — this can lead to a loss and, thereby, to the end of the game if you are playing as the main character.

To win and get information from Haarlep in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to choose the following options in the dialogue:

  • I am looking for the Orphic hammer. And you will not stop me.
  • What kind of game?
  • Undress.
  • (Choose any option related to appearance).
  • Lie down.
  • [Wisdom] Resist the charms and maintain freedom of will — difficulty 18.
  • Surrender your body to the succubus.
  • You can take my body, but not my mind.
  • I swear; my body is now yours.

Haarlep will take your form for a split second and then offer to choose the information you are interested in. You can choose to learn about the hammer (your contract) or whether Raphael is any good in bed. When choosing the latter, the incubus will laugh and say “No!”. You can use this information during the encounter with Raphael to mock the devil before the fight. After we’ve had our laughs, he will still give you the key and tell you about the safe containing the necessary information.

Refusing

If you refuse Haarlep or push him away during the “game,” a fight will immediately start, in which he will summon six vengeful imps for help. The incubus itself has a unique ability — “Ethereal Escape.” When you successfully attack him, he becomes invisible and gains resistance to all types of damage until his next turn. Additionally, Haarlep can cast “Incubus Charm” on any member of our party. If the character fails the wisdom check, the incubus will be able to control them for three turns. Remember, the incubus is resistant to all types of damage, but especially to elemental:

To quickly defeat Haarlep, we might find the “Disintegrate” spell useful, which, with a successful roll, takes down almost half of his health in one go. Therefore, it would be wise to stock up on these scrolls in advance, for example, from “Magical Supplies”.

Having defeated Haarlep, you can talk to his corpse using the “Speak with Dead” spell. He can tell you about himself, Raphael, and the hammer (contract).

Rewards

Peaceful Meeting

By agreeing to play with Haarlep, you will be able to get:

  • Information on how “good” Raphael is in bed.
  • Information on the location of the hammer (your contract).
  • A key to the safe.
  • By giving Haarlep your body, your character will feel every time he takes your form. Further in the game, at any random moment, your character will receive a special condition when Haarlep is entertaining someone.

Interestingly, some party members, like Gale, will react to your unexpected extreme expression of bliss.

Victory in Battle

If you engage Haarlep in a fight, you will receive:

  • A key to Raphael’s safe.
  • Underwear.
  • Unique “Gloves of Infernal Sunset” — necessary to complete an exceedingly rare armor set.
