Exploring Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1: The Sealed Chest of Selune
While exploring the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 in Act 1, you can find a chest sealed by Selune in one of the caves. It cannot be affected magically or physically, and touching it inflicts significant light damage. Many players eventually abandon this endeavor and forget about the stash.
And that’s unfortunate because there are decent rewards inside for starting the game.
Location
In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Selune chest is located in the “Owlbear Cave.” The fastest way to get there is from the “Abandoned Village” teleport. The cave entrance is near a small river.
Once inside, turn left at the fork and descend down the rocky cliff.
Upon reaching the location, it’s best to save, as you’ll need to pass a Perception check to open Selune’s chest. Additionally, if Shadowheart is in your party and you are planning a romance with her, it’s best to send her to the camp. Shadowheart disapproves of interacting with the items of the goddess of light. However, if you decide to keep the cleric in the party, she will gain the “Acolyte: Silver Gift” inspiration.
Choose the outcome that is most preferable for you.
How to Remove the Seal
To remove Selune’s seal from the chest, follow these steps:
- Jump to the ledge with the statue of the goddess using “Jump” from the action bar.
- Go behind it. A Perception check will occur. If successful, a leaflet with a Selunite prayer will appear on the ground, which you must pick up. If the check fails, you can reload and try again.
- Return to the chest on the other side. Read the prayer in the inventory.
After this, the Selune seal will be automatically removed. This can be easily determined by the absence of a glow around the chest.
You can now collect the items inside.
Rewards
Inside, you will find several interesting items:
- Amulet “Moon Pendant” — When the wearer has 50% or less health, they no longer provoke opportunity attacks.
- Selunite Ritual — It has no significant value on the first playthrough apart from the lore, but on subsequent playthroughs, you’ll realize it’s directly linked to one of the companions.
- Other items are solely for sale as they have no other use, just like ingots in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Idol of Selune.
- Heliotrope.
- Silver Necklace.
Altogether, it’s not worth much, but money is a very valuable resource, especially at higher difficulty levels in Baldur’s Gate.
