Desecrated Temple Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3
In the Desecrated Temple within the goblin camp during Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you can find a stone disk puzzle. Solving this puzzle allows you to access the depths of Faerûn — the Underdark.
Solving the Puzzle
In Priestess Gut’s bedroom, you will find her diary in the nightstand. This diary contains a hint on how to solve the Desecrated Temple puzzle. However, even without it, deducing the correct solution is quite feasible.
Next, in the large hall, you will discover four stone disks bearing images of white and dark circles. Light from the ceiling will shine on one of these disks.
To solve the stone disk puzzle and open the door to the Underdark, you need to move all dark circles into the lit area. The dark circles are placed on the disks randomly, so there is no single solution, just a general principle.

If you either don’t want to tackle the Desecrated Temple puzzle or get stuck, there is another way to open the door.
On the right staircase before the locked exit to the Underdark, you will find a lever disguised as a circle, which can be found with a perception check. Next, unlock the lever (difficulty — 15) and press it. The door opens without the hassle of dealing with the stone disks.
Rewards for Solving the Puzzle
If you solve the stone disk puzzle, characters with the “Sage” background will receive the “Phase Transition” inspiration. For example, Gale. Additional inspiration points help reroll the dice in case of failure during various checks.
Whether you use the lever or solve the puzzle, a path opens before you that leads to the Selunite Outpost located in the Underdark.
