In Baldur’s Gate 3, Sussur Bark is a special material necessary for creating a very rare weapon, which will provide invaluable help in the early stages of the game.
Where to find the tree
In one of the houses in the Ruined Village, if you pick the double doors, you can get into the basement where the forge is located.
Not far from it, near the circle of light on the floor, there is a wooden chest. When opened, you will receive “Blueprints from High Cliff”.
After reading them, the quest “Complete the Weapon Masterpiece” will start, and you will need to find the essential component for it — Sussur Bark. If you pass the “Nature” check, the main character will suggest that the search should be conducted in the Underdark.
Before setting out, it is advisable to level up your characters well, as the Underdark is a dangerous place. You may also need the spell or scroll “Feather Fall”.
You can access the Underdark in several ways:
- Through the Zhentarim Hideout, the entrance of which is located at Waukeen’s Rest. You will likely come here while dealing with the caravan’s safe. In the northwest part of the Hideout, there is a fake stone wall behind which a lift is hidden.
- The overgrown tunnel under Auntie Ethel’s teahouse. In the northern area, you will encounter a door that opens only with the Whispers Mask. Once inside the room, you will see a green mushroom circle — this is a teleport to the Underdark. Enter it to transition to the location.
- The Desecrated Temple in the goblin camp. Behind the room of Priestess Gut, there is a hidden door leading to the Underdark. To reach the new location, you need to solve a puzzle with stone disks. Ultimately, you will find yourself at the Selunite Outpost.
- The Whispering Chasm. Under the Ruined Village, there is a cave with spiders. You can access it via the forge or the well in the center of the settlement. Use the spell, scroll, or potion “Feather Fall” to jump into the chasm in the center.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, to find the Sussur tree, from which you need to get the bark, head to the west of the Myconid Colony near the teleport point “Underdark — Sussur Tree”. It’s not hard to find, but you need to reach a specific part of the tree to collect the bark.
The road to the tree will differ depending on your chosen method of entering the Underdark. Approaching the tree from the north, you will encounter several Hook Horrors and one drow mage. From the south, you might face the mini-boss Bulette.
How to collect the bark
From the waypoint, head east to the huge tree. Climb up the large branches and approach the broad trunk.
The Sussur tree bark is hard to see, so highlight it using the Alt key. Then approach and collect it, just like any other item in the game by clicking.
Where to use it
Later in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will need to apply the Sussur Bark in the forge in the Ruined Village, where you previously found the blueprints.
Do the following:
- Approach the forge and click on it. The flame ignites.
- Click again on the already lit area to open the item combining screen.
- Open your inventory and place “Sussur Bark” in the black window.
- Click “Combine”.
- The flame in the forge turns blue, indicating you can start crafting the unique weapon.
