Before the Third Act
Before the start of the third act, the Emperor warns that there is another ally waiting in Baldur’s Gate. We need to find Minsc from Rashemen and his friend Boo – faithful companions of Jaheira, known from previous parts of Baldur’s Gate.
Where to Find Him
The quest to find Minsc, “The High Harper,” will only begin if in Act 2 we:
- Recruited Jaheira.
- Took Jaheira into the main party while completing “The High Harper.”
After visiting the store “Dancing Axe” and meeting with the Harpers, the path will lead to the Guild of Nine-Fingered Kina. There we discover that Minsc (also known as the Stone Lord) has joined the Absolute’s servants and an ambush is being prepared for him at the Counting House.
In the Specially Protected Vault of the Counting House, Minsc appears, but despite our attempts to peacefully resolve the issue, the barbarian escapes almost immediately. We are left to deal with the remaining opponents.
To find out where to find Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can use the spell “Speak with Dead” to talk to the corpse of one of the cultists.
Questions to Ask
During the process, you need to sequentially ask two questions:
- Where can I find the Stone Lord?
- What do you mean “downstairs”?
After this, the quest will update, making it clear that you need to go to the city’s sewers.
There are several ways to enter the sewer, but the easiest and fastest is through the hatch next to the “Chromatic Chroma” store in the Lower City.
All that remains is to search the sewers for the Stone Lord. The area is quite extensive, so head straight to the area called the “Abandoned Cistern,” located in the western part. After negotiating your way through acid and several enemies, you will face a small puzzle. To proceed further, you need to use the “Lock Control Mechanism,” which opens the sluice gates below.
On the left, you will find the “Sluice Valve.” If the character passes the Athletics check, you will instantly open the door.
If the check fails, you need to pay attention to the valves showing water and heat levels. To the right of the valves, you can find a note with instructions on how to drain the water and open the gates.
To Open the Gates
To open the gates, you need to achieve the perfect water level and temperature.
Here’s how:
- Turn the water level valve once until the “Perfect Level” message appears at the top of the screen. This may take a bit of waiting.
- Then turn the valve once more to secure the result.
- Move to the temperature valve (on the right) and do exactly the same. Wait until the “Perfect Heat” message appears and turn the valve once more.
If you fail to turn the valves in time or make a mistake, there is an emergency water release valve on the right. Turn it and start again.
When the water and heat levels are perfect simultaneously, you will hear a click and find the sluice gates below have opened.
What Happens Next
Pass through the sluice gates, and we will finally find the Stone Lord, Jaheira’s evil twin, and Roa Moonlight. If you come here before the quest in the Counting House, there will be no Minsc behind the sluice gates, only cultists.
Unfortunately, a fight cannot be avoided.
However, we have the opportunity to recruit the barbarian to our team if:
- Jaheira is in the party at that moment.
- We do not kill Minsc but knock him out with a non-lethal attack.
If Minsc dies, Jaheira will permanently leave the party, and we certainly don’t want that to happen.
