“Med-Tek Research” in Fallout 4 is the remnants of the “Med-Tek Laboratories” medical research center in the Commonwealth. This private laboratory specialized in studying infectious diseases and conducted human experiments. According to the plot, the director of Med-Tek Research received a warning about an impending nuclear attack and placed the facility on lockdown to prevent the spread of infections. The lockdown allowed robots to use force against anyone attempting to escape. However, evacuation procedures were implemented for the management.
Location History
The only person who managed to escape was Wayne Thornquist. He hacked the director’s terminal, thus learning about what was going to happen. Wayne left the building, found his family, and survived the nuclear blast in a bunker.
For the next two centuries, Med-Tek Research remained sealed and was infested with feral ghouls. This continued until rumors of miraculous medicines left inside began to spread. One rumor was about an antidote for a virus that only affected teenagers and children.
The McCready Side Quest
One of the pharmaceutical products created by the company was “Preventin.” In the quest “Long Road Ahead,” McCready wants to use this medicine to cure his son of an unknown disease that causes blue boils. The quest becomes available if the relationship with the companion is over 250. Little is known about this antidote, although its sales were projected by the company to increase by 250% in 2078 and an additional 330% in 2079.
First Floor
On the first floor of “Med-Tek Research” in Fallout 4, you’ll find:
- To the east, a reception area with a security office (the door is locked for beginners).
- To the north, there is an airlock to a locked section, as well as a corridor leading to a staircase that goes up to the office on the second floor.
- The southern part opens onto a balcony overlooking the reception area.
- To the west, there are administrative rooms with a terminal that can lift the lockdown on the entire facility. To access this terminal, you’ll need Jacob’s password, which the player learns during the “Long Road Ahead” quest.
Once the lockdown is lifted, the airlock can be opened to explore another part of the building. Behind the locked doors, there are several laboratories, one of which contains a chem lab. In the same wing, there is an elevator leading to the sublevels.
Sublevels
The first room opens into two corridors, but the northern passage is blocked by a collapsed floor, so you must head south. There, you will find a two-tiered atrium surrounded by a dozen observation rooms around a central staircase.
In the eastern part of the second floor, there is an office with securely locked security gates. Access to the rest of the building is possible through a hole in the floor in the middle observation room on the eastern wall of the lower tier (after opening the doors using the terminal in the office).
The next corridor leads to a room with a staircase and a doorway to the east. Upstairs, there is a ransacked office with a safe locked at the novice level.
South of the laboratory, there is an elevator that will take the player character back to the first floor.
